A breeder seed constitutes the basis of all further seed production and is used in production of foundation seeds. Breeder seed is provided by Govt. of India through Research Institutions and is sold to State Seed Corporation, Registered Seed Growers, Govt. Farm and SAU for multiplication to get Foundation seeds. The Foundation seed is used for multiplication/production of certified seeds, which are sold to farmers for raising crops on a large scale. West Bengal State Seeds Certification Agency (WBSSCA) inspects and supervises the entire process of seed certification from field verification to sealing, bagging and tagging of seeds of the seed growers as per certification norms.
