Mission & Goal

West Bengal State Seed Corporation Limited (WBSSCL), a State Govt. undertaking, has been set up by the Government of West Bengal with the vision of supplying quality seeds to the farmers at reasonable prices for the sake of increased production in the larger interest of the state by way of attaining self-sufficiency in the production and distribution of quality seeds of different crops along with other agricultural inputs in sufficient quantities gradually reducing inflow of seeds from other states and to support agricultural production programme of the State Govt. or Government of India or other State Govt.

In pursuit of the above goal, the following missions are set forth:

• To implement National Seeds Programme for State Seeds Project.
• To undertake production of certified seeds of all those crops and varieties coming under the purview of the Seeds Act and also quality seeds of other kinds and varieties.
• To make arrangement for the supply of foundation seed to individuals, co-operatives and other agencies which will act as contract growers through National Seed Corporation Ltd and other agencies.
• To facilitate implementation of Govt Programmes/ Schemes by way of providing support in the form of supplies of inputs like Seeds, Minikits, Fertilizers, Pesticides, Micronutrients and Tools etc to the Department of Agriculture and other Departments, Govt. of West Bengal.
• To manage, operate and install processing plants and seed storage facilities.
• To promote seed industry in a way that will improve the agricultural economy of the farmer.

The WBSSCL has to carry out the above missions as a financially viable organization.
